10 STEPS FOR REDUCING CHALLENGING BEHAVIORS:
- Make sure your child or others are safe and not in danger.
- Change the setting or location if practical.
- Create a distraction that does not reward the behavior.
- Prepare your child in advance for what is to come.
- Respond calmly, speak briefly.
- Teach alternative behaviors.
- Offer choices
- Notice the positive, catch the child doing good and recognize it.
- Be consistent.
- Use humor or games.
